30 posts in 30 days

Written by Naja Shafiq

I have written & published 30 posts EVERYDAY in the last 30 days.

Here are 4 things that helped me create content more consistently:

If you don’t have time to read everything, here’s a quick list of all the 4 things,

1. Set constraints
2. Have an idea bank
3. Create a system
4. Shift your mindset

Now let’s dive into each points,

1/ Set constraints

The point of having constraint is clarity. Clarity creates focus, and focus creates consistency. Saying that you’re going to write everyday is not enough. You need to be more specific.

Example, my goal was to spend 30 minutes writing 1 content on branding & publish it on my website before 12pm everyday.

– Topic of your choice
– Time to spend on it
– Length of the content

But won’t these constraints makes you less creative when creating contents?

Having constraint helps you to overcome the habit of procrastination. But you must commit to the constraints that you’ve set. And if you do end up breaking it, make sure you get back on track right away. Personally, I did end up publishing over the time limit a few times.

2/ Have an idea bank

There are days where ideas are abundant. So I keep a bank full of post ideas on my note app. So whenever I get a random idea for a post, I write it down. Having this is helpful on days when I’m less inspired.

Another thing is how to generate ideas on what to write. What helps me is to decide on these,

– for who I’m helping
– outcome they want

Common problem for creative people is writer’s block. And the way to overcome that is to know exactly who you’re creating for.

Example, I personally write for business owners who wants to grow their business through branding.

For who: Business owners
Outcome: Grow their business

Know who you’re talking to and everything else will be clearer.

3/ Create a system

System here don’t mean some complex thing that you need to come up with. The point is to minimize all friction for you to start & keep writing. It can be just a simple thing as how & where you’re writing your posts.

Example, when Im writing, I use my note app because of how simple and easy it is for me to just start. I then copy and paste it onto my website through my internet browser to be published. It’s really straightforward and no hassle at all to publish.

You can’t rely on motivation to start creating. Having a system and process help you to be disciplined.

Discipline > Motivation

So get rid of any friction for you to create consistently.

4/ Shift your mindset

The last and most important one is to kill your perfectionism. You have to finish & publish it, no matter how bad you think it is. Remember that an imperfect post published is better than a perfect post unpublished.

Think of it like you’re stacking up points everytime you publish your content. The more you post, the better you’ll get at it each time. Because the truth is, there is no such thing as perfection. You only need it to be good enough to be published.

So here’s a recap,

1. Constraints = Clarity = Focus = Consistency
2. Know who you’re talking to, have an idea bank for the uninspired days
3. Discipline > Motivation, use system & process to create discipline
4. Imperfectly published > Unpublished perfection
